Key terms:
| Bit | 8 bits = 1 byte, comms is measured in bits rather than bytes to make things seem bigger !
| | Baud rate | number of distinct symbolic changes in a communication, not to be confused with 'bits per second'

| | B/s | Bytes per second (8 bits = 1 byte)
| | KBps | kilobits (1000 bits) per second
